1. Regulations for participation

For details see the Special rules for the 2002 World cup in Orienteering.

Event 15: Sprint (Qualification + Final) - 2 October 2002

Sprint - Qualification for the Final will be held in the morning. The Final will be held the same day in the afternoon. Only Final results will be included in the World Cup overall standing.
Sprint Qualification will be organised according to the Competition Rule 12.8: competitors will be allocated to 3 heats; 17 best runners of each heat will qualify in the Final.
Expected winning times for both the races (Qualification and Final) are 12 - 15 minutes.
The start interval for the Qualification and Final is 1 minute.
Start procedures of the Final will follow the Competition Rules 12.9 and 12.10.

Event 16: Long (World Cup Final) - 3 October 2002

Long - World Cup Finals (A + B).
Runners will qualify in the race upon their overall World Cup standing after the event 15 (8 best individual results are taken into account).
Any federation may be represented by more than 6 runners provided each of the runners scored at least 1 point in the first 14 events.
40 best runners in both men and women categories following the overall World Cup standing will qualify in the A-Final. Should there be more runners positioned 40 (reaching the same overall result), all will qualify in the A-Final.
Any other runner will run in the B-Final. If there are less than 10 runners registered for the B-Final, all the runners will run the A-Final.
Expected winning times for the A-Finals: 70 minutes (women); 90 minutes (men)
Expected winning times for the B-Finals: 55 minutes (women); 70 minutes (men)

The start interval for the A final is 3 minutes.
The start interval for the B final is 2 minutes.
Start order for both A and B Finals shall be based upon the overall World Cup standing: runners will start in the reverse order.

Event 17: Relay (World Cup Final) - 5 October 2002

Relay - World Cup Relay Final.
Each team consists of 3 runners.
Expected winning time for women is 120 minutes (sum of the fastest times in all legs).
Expected winning time for men is 150 minutes (sum of the fastest times in all legs).

3. Event Centre / Competition Office

The Event Centre is located in the Santon Hotel, the holiday resort by Brno Lake. The hotel is situated 8 km in the North - Western direction of the city centre. Model Event and Training maps are located in the surrounding of the Hotel.
The Competition Office will be opened on 30 September 2002 - 7:00 pm (see the Official Programme for details). All information concerning the World Cup Final programme will be available in the office.
Transportation to the individual events will be arranged from the Event Centre.

4. Selected routes and means of transport

The organiser, if requested in advance, is ready to provide for transportation from EuOC, Sümeg (HUN) to Brno on 30 September 2002 (after the prizegiving ceremony).
The deadline for making reservations is 30 August 2002.

 

5. Local transportation

Transportation from accommodation areas and the Event Centre (the Santon Hotel, Brno) to the competition centres is included in the entry fee.

You may also arrange for your own transportation to all finish areas.

Organised transportation to the starts of the Sprint Final and Long is compulsory.

6. Accommodation

The organiser is ready to provide for 4 different types of accommodation of different standards, which will be located in the Event Centre (the Santon Hotel ****) and in the surrounding of Brno Lake.
Standard A the Santon Hotel single-room 44 EUR
Standard B the Santon Hotel double-room 33 EUR
Standard C Hotel (* 1.5 km) two or three beds per room 22 EUR
Standard D Hotel (* 2 km) multiple rooms, common sanitation 11 EUR

 

Rooms of A and B standard are equipped with bathroom, bed-clothes, TV, phone.
Sauna, fitness centre and indoor pool are available.

7. Boarding

Only European cuisine will be served. There will be three ordinary meals plus vegetarian meal available.
Breakfast, lunch and dinner (plus tea or mineral water) is included in the price of accommodation.
Admission to disco at the Santon Hotel on 3 October 2002 is included in the entry fee for the competition.
Admission to the 2002 WC overall winners prize giving ceremony and raut on 5 October 2002 is also included in the entry fee for the competition.
Bear and alcoholic drinks on all social occasions are not price included.

 

8. Terms of making a reservation and advance payment

Preliminary reservation of accommodation and boarding shall be made by the 30 April 2002; 20% advance payment shall be paid by the term.
Booking of rooms in the Santon Hotel (Event Centre) will follow the first - come - first - serve basis.
Deadline for the final reservations and full payment is 19 August 2002.

 

9. Entry fees

Per competitor: 90 EURO. Model events, individual races and official transport are included in the price.

Per relay team: 60 EURO. Model event, relay race and official transport are included in the price.

Per team official: 55 EURO. Official transportation, public race on Friday, 4 October 2002 and model events are included in the price.

11. Terrain description

Sprint Qualification:

Acclivity above The Svratka river, climbing between the lowest and highest point is 120m, city park - large number of tracks or footpaths, boulders and rock faces; low running areas, undergrowth areas and number of terrain at places; housing areas are also part of the map.

Sprint Final:

City park surrounding Špilberk castle - large number of tracks or footpaths and vegetation details; steep slopes. Small part of the map covers a built-up area (the castle and a part of the historical centre of Brno) - streets, arcades and squares.

Long:

Typical Central European terrain - large number of tracks or footpaths and vegetation details; many terrain details such as erosion gullies and trenches at places. The speed of running may be reduced by undergrowth in some areas. There many terrain details in the southern part of the map, the northern part is hilly. The map is situated in the surrounding of the Brno Grand Prix Motor-Racing Circuit.

Relay:

Karstic terrain - easy to run; large number of karstic details in some areas. Number of footpaths and vegetation details. Downy terrain, hilly areas.

 

12. Course information

Sprint:

Expected winning times for both men and women in the Qualification and Final are 12-15 minutes.

Long:

Expected winning times for the A-Finals: 70 minutes (women); 90 minutes (men)
Expected winning times for the B-Finals: 55 minutes (women); 70 minutes (men)

Relay:

Expected winning time for women is 120 minutes (sum of the fastest times in all three legs); 30 - 50 minutes for each leg.
Expected winning time for men is 150 minutes (sum of the fastest times in all three legs); 35-60 minutes for each leg.

14. Clothing

Following the regulations of the Czech Orienteering Federation the whole body except for head, neck and arms must be covered during all the competitions.
Shoes with metallic spikes are allowed.

 

15. Timing and punching systems

The SI electronic punching system will be used in all the World Cup 2002 Final races. All competitors must use SI-Cards which will be provided by the organiser.
An independent back up timing system will be used throughout the competitions.

 

16. Open Races

2 October 2002 (Wednesday): Open race in sprint area will be held free of charge in the city centre after the Sprint flower ceremony is finished.

4 October 2002 (Friday): Officials, IOF and media event - 3 courses (3,5,7 km). The event will be organised in the surrounding of the Event Centre. The fee of 5 EURO must be paid in cash at the start.

5 October 2002 (Saturday): Czech National Relay Series will be held in the competition centre after the Relay flower ceremony is finished.

 

17. Training

The organiser is ready to provide for a training - Bílý potok 2001 map - in the week of the WC Final. The terrain is situated in 10 km distance from the Event Centre. Those who wish to take part must register and pay extra fee.
It is also possible to train in the terrain for Model event situated in the surrounding of the Event Centre.

30 June 2002 - Deadline for nominal entries and official accommodation bookings.
19 August 2002 - Deadline for full payment.
30 August 2002 - Deadline to apply for transportation from Sümeg (HUN) to Brno.
15 September 2002 - Deadline for registration of competitors by names and sex.
Deadline for registration of team officials by names.

The deadline for late entries is 30 August 2002; these will be charged + 30% regarding the standard entries.
